About RETAS
Established in 2002, RETAS (Refugee Education Training Advice Service), is a well-respected community-based charity that supports the social, cultural and economic integration of refugees and asylum seekers in West Yorkshire. Annually, supporting over 3000 new asylum seekers and refugees and over 10800 related cases.
Our clients range from newly arrived asylum seekers from over 40 countries to established refugees who, although resident in the UK for a varying number of years, may still require ongoing support. Individuals and families have a wide range of needs from basic to multiple and complex. As each person’s transitional journey to independence varies RETAS offers a holistic service covering key integration issues including destitution, social isolation, housing, health, welfare, mental health and wellbeing, language development, debt management, education, training, employment advice and guidance.
RETAS currently supports 22 staff, 70% of whom have lived experience of migration and a robust volunteer service of 40 volunteers, most of whom are from a refugee background.
