Celebrating Excellence: The 5th Annual Curry Awards Recognise Bradford's Finest

The 5th Annual Curry Awards took place at the newly refurbished Cedar Court Hotel, in Bradford, drawing hundreds to celebrate the best of Bradford’s vibrant curry industry. The event highlighted the city's culinary excellence, honouring outstanding achievements across various categories.

This year's esteemed panel of judges included Richard Thewlis, Director of Huddersfield Giants, Qaiser Mehmood, Director and founder of Radio Sangam, and Zarrin Ali, a Home Economics teacher from Harrogate. Together, they evaluated entries ac ross 13 categories, with two voted by the public and two special awards chosen by the organisers.

The categories ranged from Best Restaurant and Best Marketing to Chef of the Year and Waiter of the Year. The highlight of the evening was the Lifetime Contribution award, presented to Mohammed Rafiq of Kiplings. In an emotional acceptance speech, Rafiq was recognised for his pivotal role in Bradford's achievement as a six-time curry capital winner. He shared the award with his wife, acknowledging the sacrifices made by families in the restaurant industry.

The event saw a distinguished guest list, including the Lord Mayor of Bradford, High Sheriff of West Yorkshire Adeeba Malik, Deputy Lieutenants, Danny from Rate My Takeaway, and TV star Dr. Amir Khan, among others.

Fatima Patel, the founder of the Bradford Curry Awards, expressed her gratitude: “The awards were ‘zabaradast’ and it’s good to see win or lose how the industry gets behind the awards, to celebrate and unite as one. Every finalist in the room is a winner, whether they have taken a trophy home or not, they can proudly claim to be in the top 5 of the Bradford Curry Industry. I am deeply grateful to all guests, finalists, sponsors, and my team, without whom this event wouldn’t be possible.”

  • Food Brand of the Year: Desi Me & Supreme Ingredients
  • Best Dish: Indus Peshwari Cuisine
  • Best Marketing: My Lahore
  • Waiter of the Year: Raja Shamraiz International
  • Lifetime Achievement: Mohammed Rafiq of Kiplings
  • Editor's Choice: Lala’s for Entrepreneurship and Leadership in the Restaurant Trade
  • Best Eatery: Sweet Centre
  • Best Restaurant Judges' Choice: My Peshawar
  • Best Restaurant People’s Choice: International
